“Look at where we sit financially, we are in a great position. For what we are doing with the staffing we have, I think we are doing a remarkable job. It’s not rocket science. We are either getting the job done, or we are not.” ~ John Foley, Candidate for Derry Township Supervisor, at LWV Forum, Derry Township Municipal Complex, Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

Reality: “Unfortunately, Township Expenditures have exceeded Revenues for the last 4 years — the last 3 years by over $1 million/year! This can not continue.” ~ Sandy Ballard, Sitting Derry Supervisor and long-time Derry budget hawk, via email Thursday, October 27, 2011.

Reality: “The numbers prove we’ve been resting on our laurels, not spending efficiently. It is a smokescreen, and it will clear very soon. At that point someone will HAVE TO raise taxes…AND take the blame for raising them: In 2006, we had a surplus of $5,082,032. By the end of FY2010, it had dwindled to $459,459. Following that trend statistically, we should have hit negative by May, 2011. Did we return that $4+ to the taxpayer? Did we exercise fiscal prudence with how we utilized OUR MONEY? No and No. My 13-point Recovery Budget Strategy will very soon be released in detail to the Supervisors, and candidates Foley and Witmer. I will also try to attend the Nov 3, 5:30 PM, Review of 2012 Proposed Budget meeting at the Derry Township Municipal Complex, and read it into the public record.” ~ Steve Todd, Write In Candidate for Derry Township Supervisor, Saturday, 30 Oct 2011.
